What are Custom Sources?

Custom Sources let you control which Library content the AI uses when generating responses for a project. You can include specific sources (whitelist) or exclude them (blacklist).

Why Use Custom Sources?

  • Relevance - Only use sources relevant to this specific RFP
  • Accuracy - Exclude outdated content from older projects
  • Compliance - Ensure responses come from approved sources only
  • Client-specific - Use content tailored to a specific client or industry

Whitelist vs Blacklist

ModeBehaviorBest For
WhitelistOnly use selected sourcesWhen you want precise control over content
BlacklistUse everything except selected sourcesWhen you want to exclude a few specific sources

Whitelist Example

You’re responding to a healthcare client RFP:
  • Whitelist: “Healthcare Compliance”, “HIPAA Documentation”, “Medical Case Studies”
  • Result: Responses only draw from healthcare-specific content

Blacklist Example

You’re responding to a competitor’s RFP:
  • Blacklist: “Competitor Analysis”, “Internal Strategy Docs”
  • Result: AI uses all sources except sensitive competitive information

Effect on Response Generation

Once configured, all response generation in this project will:
  • Only search the sources you’ve allowed
  • Ignore content from excluded sources
  • Show citations only from allowed sources
  • Maintain these settings for bulk generation

Best Practices

For compliance-heavy RFPs, start with whitelist mode to ensure only approved content is used.
Before generating responses in bulk, verify your source selection is correct.
Upload client-specific documents to a dedicated source, then whitelist only that source.
If you add new Library sources during a project, remember to update your whitelist/blacklist.

Permissions

  • You can only select sources you have access to
  • Private sources require explicit permission
  • Admins can select any source in the organization

Troubleshooting

Your selected sources may not contain enough relevant content. Try adding more sources to your whitelist.
Check if the source containing that content is whitelisted (or not blacklisted).
You may not have access to that source. Ask an admin to grant you permission.
